英語の勉強の仕方2~文法を勉強してはいけない~

ルールNo.1に続きルールNo.2です。

00:00
hi this is AJ and it's time for secret
00:04
or rule number two for excellent English
00:09
speaking now this one I think is going
00:12
to be your favorite I think this is
00:14
going to be your favorite secret because
00:17
most of our subscribers most of our
00:20
students tell us this is the one they
00:22
love that they loved hearing this but it
00:25
set them free so what is it what is
00:30
secret number two secret number two is
00:34
this never again
00:38
study grammar rules woohoo you're
00:42
finished with grammar no more never
00:46
study grammar rules now I know this may
00:51
be a big surprise this is a surprise for
00:54
a lot of people for a lot of our
00:56
students a lot of our subscribers a lot
00:58
of our members when they first hear this
01:01
rule they're they're shocked they're
01:03
surprised and they think oh is that true
01:07
could that be possible maybe you're
01:11
feeling a little unsure about this
01:14
particular secret or rule well that's
01:18
natural the reason it seems shocking or
01:21
surprising is that all your life that
01:25
you have been learning English your
01:30
teachers have been telling you study
01:33
grammar study grammar study grammar
01:35
grammar is the secret grammar is the
01:38
secret to English grammar grammar
01:40
grammar grammar I don't know exactly
01:42
when you started studying English maybe
01:46
in elementary school when you were young
01:48
maybe in middle school or high school
01:51
when you're a bit older maybe later than
01:54
that
01:54
but I'm sure that in school your
01:57
teachers told you grammar was the key
01:59
grammar was super important you had to
02:02
study all these grammar rules you have
02:04
to know the the past and the past
02:06
perfect and the present and the present
02:09
perfect and the present progressive
02:11
and the future perfect progressive you
02:13
didn't know what all of that stuff was
02:15
and how to do all of the changes to the
02:18
verbs and you have to know possessives
02:20
of course and then there were all the
02:22
prepositions endless grammar you have to
02:27
memorize all of these rules and probably
02:30
most of your English classes were
02:32
focused on these grammar rules and then
02:35
taking tests about these grammar rules
02:39
it doesn't work stop doing it you're
02:43
finished in our system no grammar rules
02:47
study now some people when they hear
02:50
this they think no no that's not right
02:52
and they don't they don't believe me so
02:55
I have only one question for you you
02:58
have been learning these grammar rules
03:01
for years and years and years my simple
03:05
question is did it work can you now
03:12
speak English easily quickly and
03:17
automatically is your grammar correct
03:22
when you speak or do you still make
03:27
mistakes with simple grammar like the
03:30
like the past tense I mean if you're a
03:33
fantastic amazing English speaker
03:35
probably you don't need to watch this
03:38
video but I'm guessing if you're
03:40
watching this it means you're not a
03:42
great English speaker you do not have
03:45
excellent English speaking and yet you
03:48
know so much grammar I guarantee you no
03:52
more grammar than I do because I don't
03:55
think about this stuff when I speak
03:57
English I just use it automatically I
04:00
don't need to think about the past tense
04:03
or the present perfect or anything else
04:07
it just comes out correctly usually I
04:09
make mistakes sometimes like everyone
04:11
but normally it just comes out when you
04:14
speak your own language do you think
04:17
about grammar rules of course not
04:21
see
04:22
here's the problem with grammar rules
04:25
they cause you to think about English so
04:28
you are always analyzing it meaning
04:31
you're always thinking about it all the
04:33
time now for writing that's okay I mean
04:39
even when I write in English sometimes I
04:41
might stop for a minute and think oh
04:43
wait wait what's the grammar for that
04:45
not usually but sometimes maybe why can
04:51
I do that why can you do that well
04:53
because of course with writing you have
04:54
plenty of time there's no there's no
04:57
pressure there's no speed you can write
04:59
very very very slowly and then you can
05:03
go and you can write the same thing
05:05
again
05:05
and then you can show it to somebody and
05:07
say is this correct and they can say oh
05:09
no you know change this and then you can
05:11
write it again all of that is possible
05:14
with writing so you know if you want to
05:16
study grammar rules for writing you know
05:18
okay but here's the problem for speaking
05:21
there is no time if I walk up to you and
05:24
I say hey how's it going what did you do
05:27
yesterday you have no time to be
05:30
thinking about grammar which tense is it
05:34
and what do I say there's no time you
05:36
need to answer immediately instantly
05:40
automatically and when you speak that
05:43
grammar needs to be correct
05:46
automatically you can't be thinking
05:48
about it you can't be trying to remember
05:51
some grammar rules no if you are
05:54
thinking about grammar rules it causes
05:56
you to speak slowly causes you to
05:59
hesitate and stop a lot and when you're
06:03
listening to people if you're thinking
06:05
about grammar you're not really hearing
06:07
them very well it causes huge problems
06:10
you have to stop studying grammar no
06:13
more see native speakers meaning people
06:18
who grow up learning English we never
06:20
study grammar
06:21
I never study grammar until high school
06:24
when I was about 16 years old we started
06:28
studying some grammar but it was just
06:30
for writing it was just for academic
06:32
writing for writing for school kind of
06:35
paper
06:35
that's all but by then I already used
06:39
correct spoken grammar perfectly so how
06:43
did I learn grammar as the child how
06:46
does it happen every American child
06:48
learns to speak with good English
06:52
grammar most at least do how do they do
06:55
it if they don't study grammar rules
06:57
well we talked about it in secret number
06:59
one first of all they're learning it
07:00
from phrases natural phrases and there's
07:05
a few other ways that they're learning
07:06
grammar which we'll talk about in some
07:09
of our future secrets or rules but the
07:13
point is they are not studying grammar
07:15
rules do they do not get themselves
07:16
confused with grammar rules if you're
07:20
thinking about grammar rules you're
07:21
going to be confused it's going to hurt
07:24
your speaking ability so you must stop
07:27
now and never do it again in fact here's
07:32
what I want you to do go grab all your
07:35
grammar books English grammar books and
07:37
put them on top of each other and then
07:40
burn them get a fire put some gasoline
07:44
on there and let the fire come up and if
07:48
you want you can dance around it and
07:50
celebrate and smile and jump around
07:52
because you are free of English grammar
07:54
no more with our system you will never
07:58
study another grammar rule again I
08:01
promise you and that should make you
08:04
happy because I know that grammar rules
08:06
caused a lot of pain a lot of boredom a
08:10
lot of frustration nobody likes them so
08:14
just forget it so this is good news
08:17
today secret number two rule number two
08:20
is great news throw away your grammar
08:23
books burn them have a party celebrate
08:26
because you will never study grammar
08:28
rules again and that is secret number
08:32
two I'll see you again tomorrow for a
08:35
very important secret it's also very
08:38
simple but very powerful have a great
08:41
