00:39
murder Hornets this is breaking news
00:43
welcome to the brave wilderness news
00:45
network I'm your host coyote Peterson
and unless you've been living on the
00:48
moon for the past five days
I'm sure you've also seen the headline
that's been sweeping the nation murder
00:54
Hornets and their invasion here in
00:56
America well guys I gotta tell you
00:58
murder Hornets are not going to invade
01:01
America what I'm gonna do now is to
answer ten of the most asked questions
that have been coming in through the
01:06
social media feeds we're gonna address
01:08
whether or not these Hornets are gonna
01:09
show up what exactly murder Hornet is
01:11
and whether or not you truly need to be
01:13
afraid of these seemingly terrifying
01:16
creatures so you guys ready here we go
01:19
question number one what is a murder
01:22
Hornet well first of all the term murder
01:24
Hornet was just created by the media to
01:26
evoke fear in the public there is no
01:30
such thing as a murder Hornet and there
01:32
is not anyone of species that is going
01:34
to murder humans so to speak what they
01:37
are scientifically known as is Asian
01:39
giant Hornets you guys saw me stung by
01:42
something known as the Japanese giant
01:44
Hornet in 2018 and that is one of the
01:46
world's largest Asian Hornet species
01:49
there are multiple subspecies and the
01:51
one that showed up in the Pacific
01:52
Northwest is an Asian Hornet of some
01:55
sort but that does not mean that there
01:57
is an outbreak of these insects they're
01:59
about to take over the u.s. question
02:02
number two how big are they well given
02:05
their name giant Hornets they're really
02:08
big in fact most of the largest species
02:10
measured close to two inches in length
02:12
with a 3 inch wingspan and Japan they
02:16
refer to the Japanese giant Hornet as
02:18
the great sparrow bird this is because
02:21
the insect is so large it resembles a
02:23
bird when it
02:24
flying through the air in fact they're
02:26
so loud it almost sounds like an Apache
02:28
helicopters getting ready to land
02:30
if one flies by it so trust me you're
02:32
gonna hear it far before you see it
02:34
coming question number three how did
02:37
they get here well first of all let's
02:39
not use the term they thus far we have a
02:42
single individual that has been found
02:44
and keep in mind it was also dead which
02:46
means it's not gonna be reproducing it
02:48
didn't just get here on its own a Hornet
02:50
like that cannot fly all the way across
02:53
the ocean and end up in the United
02:54
States that is physically impossible the
02:57
animal would have exhausted itself died
02:58
and fallen into the ocean far before it
03:01
made landfall the way that it likely got
03:03
here was on a cargo ship this is one way
03:05
that a lot of invasive species end up on
03:08
our soil is stow away on a boat once the
03:10
boat docks it realizes it's on land it
03:13
escapes the boat and lo and behold it's
03:15
out there in the environment for us
03:16
humans here in the United States to
03:18
encounter so that is likely how this
03:20
Hornet ended up in the Pacific Northwest
03:22
question number four how many are here
03:25
now to be honest with you I am Not sure
03:28
is there more than one possibly
03:31
entomologists are specifically working
03:33
on this topic now in the Pacific
03:35
Northwest to determine whether or not a
03:37
nest in a colony has formed if that is
03:40
the case once they find it it will be
03:42
eradicated and it is unlikely that the
03:44
spread of the Hornets will go any
03:45
further than that
03:46
so the concept of them moving from
03:48
Washington to New York City in the next
03:51
18 months completely unlikely question
03:55
number five how painful is the sting
03:58
second most painful insects seen in the
04:01
world according to coyote Peterson the
04:03
pain is
04:04
scruciating it feels like someone has
04:07
shoved a red-hot poker into your arm and
04:10
does not remove it for close to six
04:12
hours after I was stung my arm had
04:14
swollen up to nearly twice its original
04:16
size and I was in intense pain for
04:19
almost 36 hours trust me it is not
04:22
something you want to get stung by but
04:24
also keep in mind it is only the second
04:26
most painful sting most painful sting
04:28
goes to the true king the execution lost
04:30
trust me you don't want to be stung by
04:32
that one even question number six how
04:35
potent is the venom
04:37
well it's quite potent and keep this in
04:39
mind a larger insect is going to have a
04:42
larger venom yield that means a single
04:45
two-inch Hornet is going to inject more
04:47
venom in its sting than something like
04:49
your typical backyard Hornet now the
04:51
venom does have neurotoxic properties
04:54
which means that it does attack your
04:55
nervous system but also has some
04:57
compounds that can break down human
04:59
flesh which means that it can cause
05:01
necrosis so it is a very potent sting
05:03
just a single sting alone is more than a
05:06
single human would ever want to handle
05:08
but several stings let's say twenty to
05:11
thirty could potentially kill a human
05:13
but death usually occurs as a secondary
05:17
allergic reaction so it's not so much
05:19
the stings as much as it is being
05:21
allergic to the insects venom question
05:24
number seven will the giant Hornet sting
05:26
me for no reason
05:27
no these Hornets will not sting unless
05:31
provoked
05:32
and by provoked I mean if you try to
05:34
catch try to kill or try to spray one of
05:36
these creatures with an insecticide just
05:39
like all Hornets and wasps if they feel
05:41
threatened they will attack now a single
05:44
Hornet is likely to just leave you alone
05:46
if you accidentally stumble upon a nest
05:48
and disturb it that is how you get
05:50
swarmed and that is the worst case
05:53
scenario but hopefully none of us will
05:55
ever have to deal with question number
05:58
eight who needs to be afraid honestly
06:00
nobody nobody that's human that is now
06:04
beekeepers definitely need to be aware
06:06
because it's the bees that do need to
06:08
fear the Hornets specifically European
06:11
honeybees because they have not yet
06:13
evolved to a state where they are
06:15
capable of forming a defense
06:16
against these Hornets attack what the
06:19
Hornets will do is come in and decimate
06:21
an entire colony by stinging and
06:23
decapitating all the worker bees they
06:25
work their way in eventually kill the
06:27
Queen and then they eat all of the
06:29
larvae now Asian honey bee species have
06:32
worked out a way through evolution to
06:34
create a defense against giant Hornets
06:36
they will form something known as a bee
06:38
ball where they will surround a single
06:40
Hornet beat their wings as fast as they
06:41
can and raise that Hornets body
06:43
temperature to the point where
06:44
essentially they cook it however
06:47
European honeybees have not figured out
06:49
how to do this yet which means if giant
06:51
Hornets did become a stronghold here in
06:54
the United States
06:54
beekeepers would definitely need to try
06:56
to protect their colonies from these
06:58
Hornets the biggest threat is that the
07:00
Hornets would come in and wipe out our
07:02
honeybees question number nine what
07:05
should I do if I see one of these
07:07
Hornets well you definitely don't want
07:08
to approach it you definitely don't want
07:10
to provoke it you don't want to try to
07:11
catch it or kill it if you can from a
07:14
safe distance get a photograph verifying
07:17
the species identification is the most
07:19
important thing we can do right now take
07:22
that information and provide it to local
07:24
Fish & Wildlife Department they can help
07:26
you properly identify the species and
07:28
then they will get in touch with
07:29
entomologist that can come out into your
07:30
area and determine whether or not there
07:32
is a hive or colony that has taken root
07:35
in an area near you question number ten
07:38
is the hype real are giant Hornets going
07:42
to invade America to be honest I would
07:45
say it's very unlikely even if a colony
07:48
has established itself in the Pacific
07:50
Northwest
07:51
entomologists are going to track it down
07:52
and destroy it long before the Hornets
07:54
are gonna spread from Washington clear
07:56
across to New York I'm so confident
07:58
saying that that I would come out of
08:00
sting retirement and get stung by one if
08:02
it was here in the United States that's
08:05
right that's right coyote Peterson is
08:06
coming out of sting retirement print the
08:08
headline you heard me right no no that
08:12
is not what I'm saying I'm not coming
08:14
out of sting Retirement see this is how
08:16
things get out of control
08:17
in the media it is all hype what I'm
08:20
saying is that your odds of being
08:22
swarmed let alone stung by giant Hornets
08:25
this summer is virtually impossible
08:27
which means head out enjoy your picnics
08:30
you are not going to be running into
08:31
giant man-eating Hornets I'm coyote
08:34
Peterson be brave stay wild we'll see
08:38
you on the next adventure breaking news
08:41

Hornets make sure to go back and watch
08:52
my epic yet clearly painful encounter
08:55
with this greatly misunderstood insect
08:59
are you okay when the Stinger went into
09:04
my arm I had this like wave like a wave
09:08
came over me and I got super dizzy
09:10
almost didn't feel what was happening
09:12
and then the pain just was like
09:14
immediate immediately searing oh and

it's just a matter of harnessing the
09:50
pain controlling the level of pain and
09:55
rolling around on the ground and
09:56
screaming at this point it really
09:57
doesn't do me any good all right let's
10:01
cut cameras and come back in about five
10:03
minutes let me get wrinkled are
